How to survive final professional exam MBBS (last minute preparation)

Yang baca post ni, I guess mesti korang final year medic student kan.. Don't give up, teruskan sikit lagi, the end will be worth it!
Alhamdulillah pada tarikhh 2/12/2021, telah diumumkan keputusan final professional exam MBBS IIUM Class 2021.
Maha Besar Allah tak mungkin mampu tanpa pertolongannya. Alhamdulillah, mula2 tu acah kental ye tak nangis. Tapi bila nama kena sebut, tetiba sebak mengalir la juga air mata teringat "5 tahun aku susah payah, this is it finally!"ðŸ˜
Post ini sebenarnya terhasil sebab saya pun pernah berada di tempat korang.
Nervous, takut, tak yakin, tak tahu mana nak mula, nak study macam mana final professional exam ni.
I searched before dekat google, takde pula jumpa tips dan overview yang spesifik macam mana nak study final professional exam MBBS IIUM haha😂
And, this post sebenarnya nak bagitau kalau you guys memang rasa tak prepare sangat untuk final pro smpai habis final posting pun tak. Tinggal 2 minggu tu je lagi! Dont worry, with good strategy you can pass biiznillah.
Sebab saya lah orangnya dan my bestfriend yang memang tak prepare for pro, sampailah the last 2 weeks baru kitorang pulun untuk pro😂😂😂
Because at the end of the day, you just wanna pass the final pro kan! (melainkan yang nak aim P+). So bacalah post ini, kalau korang in that situation. Ataupun you guys lost that 2 weeks study week nak study macam mana.
To take note,
1) Tips dan guide ni adalah cukup untuk lulus dan survive. Kalau anda berazam untuk distinction final pro exam, sorryy post ni bukan untuk anda. Anda patut bertanya langsung dengan best student
2)Saya adalah batch 20 MBBS IIUM, yang mana kami adalah yang terakhir mengunakan format lama exam EOP and final pro.

Ni pemarkahan format lama, clinical exam kami consist of
2 modified long case (satu medical based, satu surgical based)
-Close marking system, perlu lulus theory dan clinical. Fail salah satu, consider fail!
3)Jumlah study weeks final pro mungkin berbeza, kami diperuntukkan 2 minggu study weeks untuk final pro
Bila saya start study untuk final pro? 2 minggu. Yes, 2 minggu terakhir itulah saya concsiously study untuk pro. Subconsciously, dari first posting dah ready sikit2, walaupun tak banyak. Tips dibawah ni, how to pass final pro, last minute preparation,with 2 weeks preparations.
Ni semua atas izin Allah juga. That's why I said this guide is merely for you to pass, for you to distinction i'm sorry this is not. Ok jom.
How to start study for final professional exam MBBS IIUM
1) Kenal cara study sendiri
Dah 5 tahun, patut dah tahu style sendiri. X tahu juga, sila tepuk dada tanya hati lol. Anda efficient study sendiri, atau study group? Ni the first thing you need to know supaya study weeks tu efficient.
Saya sejenis study sendiri.
How did I know? I tried both. Saya pernah join study group yang gigih pre read sebelum every kelas, sorry tak masuk kepala saya. 2 minggu saya bertahan, sorry saya terpaksa keluar. Know yourself.
Sebab masa yang terbuang tak masuk pun kepala apa yang dibentangkan kawan tu, masa tersebut baik saya study sendiri... Kan lebih berbaloi masa kuu.
Saya pernah join study group yang rajin present to revise topik topik sebelum profesional exam, berbulan sebelum pro. Sebab saya insecure nampak function je mereka, sorry jugaa memang tak masuk kepala pun apa yang dibentangkan. Jadi, lesson nya apa sini? Know yourself.
Takpayah insecure tengok style study orang lain, efficient untuk orang lain, tapi tak untuk anda.
2 minggu study week final pro
Fokus style sendiri. Suka self study, go on. Suka study group, go on.
Saya? 4 hari pertama saya recruit kawan untuk study bersama- kami bincang topik clinical yang penting, cuba jawab soalan examiner yang ditanya dalam compilation past year, revise cara clerk point penting, revise physical exam.
"Eh tadi cakap study sendiri. Ni rekruit kawan pula?Hipokrit😂".
Kenapa saya rekruit kawan study bersama 4 hari walau saya suka study sendiri?
- To boost your spirit. Bila study bersama, you will feel the stress of not knowing something. You know what you dont know. Ataupun bahasa kasarnya untuk menyedarkan anda "eh bodoh nya aku. Banyaknya tak tahuu😂"Inilah yang akan bantu ada semangat untuk study. Sebab tu juga saya study bersama 4 hari awal, to boost spirit dari awal untuk hari yang berbaki.
- To help my friends. Saya rekruit tu semua is my bestfriends. Saya nak tolong diorang, saya tahu nak start study macam mana. Mereka ada yang tak tahu. With them, my plan can go fast. With them, we will pass together.
- Ada benda anda boleh study sendiri. Anda benda, anda perlukan kawan. Apa yang saya study bersama kawan 4 hari pertama?
- 1)Practise all the PE (basic PE, plus spesifik PE macam kes ortho. PE specific for disease)
2)discussion: More to clinical
-How to clerk the case of important clinical case yang memang masuk Pro. How to know? Analyse from compilation. You'll know kes yang selalu dijemput, bahkan patient sama.
-How to answer the examiner questions
- -Important theory related to the case
6 hari berbaki? Saya study sendiri. Tapi ada masa, saya akan ajar kawan apa yang saya belajar, with intention for me to remember, for her to at least know something. Saya akan tanya, awak dah study ni? Kalau belum, saya akan ajar.
Cthnya, saya ajar kwn cerebral palsy A-Z. Definition, causes, classification semua up to mx. And soalan2 yg akan dr tnya. Know what, alhamdulillah kwn tu dpt CP masa pro, dan yg saya ajar tu la, the one and only dia study pasal CP. Rezeki dia kan.
Walaupun, yg kita power topik tu tapi kita x dapat, at least niat kita tolong orang tu mungkin allah akan balas dalam bentuk lain.
Rajin2 kan la berkongsi dengan orang lain🙌
2) Plan youy study weeks for final pro exam
Ok take note betul2 bawah ni.
- Kumpul semua jawapan softcopy compilation (EOP dan final pro) in one folder of google drive. Dari siapa? Dari geng2 yang rajin study group to answer the compilation. Study smart😂
- Usually dorang jawab with reasoning too, so you can study too from there. Dan saya kumpul from different groups, you can compare the answers. If consistent, likely true. But youu too have knowledge kan, you might know the answers, but just to be fast. Tak cukup masa dah nak jawab sendiri.
Theory part:
- Khatam mcq dan oba final pro compilation tu at max 3 batch.. Khatam mcq EOP posting at max 2 batch. Why? might be repeated dan untuk familiar kan jawapan betul dan salah.
- PMP: this one is from hypothesis yang dibuat oleh batch saya. Topik final pro pmp/ senario soalan akan diambil dari EOP PMP. So, mana yang EOP PMP dah keluar dalam final pro PMP, less likely need to be prioritize, same as mana yang dah keluar final pro. But, still youu need to baca semuaa. At this point, you nak prioritize mana duluu.
Another tips for PMP is: take your lecturer words seriously. For example, our lecturer cakap " jangan ingat neonate topik tak masuk eh". There you go, revise la topik neonates, check balik senario PMP neonate macam mana yang pernah keluar. What things to be remember. And turn out yes, topik neonate keluar, about HIE something. Are they giving soalan bocor? No, neonate is a a big topic.
Another lecturer, mentioning ONG, she would not repeat the same questions and topik as before.
There you go, tengok balik apa yang PMP final pro last year keluar. Then, tak payah bersungguh baca yang tu.
- Data picture, Unmanned osce. We do not have manned osce. How to study DPQ? Again, kumpul softcopy jawapan from previous postings EOP even yang specialized posting, dan final pro osce. From where to get this jawapan? Again, minta from the geng study group yang rajin, you can minta junior as well. Khatamkan.
- Masa exam DPQ ni nanti, korang akan tend to mix up ni soalan posting apa eh. Sbb nnti terbagi jawapan posting lain pula. So tipsnya, dua meja DPQ satu posting.
I think done theory part, right.
Oh lagi satu, sebelum lupa, pasal notes. Okay, at this point of time, nota mana nak baca?
Untuk saya, nota yang saya prepare dari posting2 lepas. Sebab tu pentingnya buat nota, sebab the way nota tu dibuat berdasarkan pemahaman awak, way of thinking awak, style awak. Semua ni akan memudahkan, sbb awak fahan nota tu nak smpaikan apa.
Tapii, tula tak semua topik masa posting lepas, saya sempat buat nota juga. So yang tak ada nota tu, baca je dari nota2 simplified dari orang lain. Tak payah dah baca buku teks okay. Nota2 dari senior utk final pro mmg sangat membantu juga, especially yg dah analyse soalan apa lecturer akan tanya dan yg mmg buat nota utk final pro, sbb nota akan lebih concise.
Sehari, boleh baca smpai 5 topik. Awal2 untuk orang yang biasanya tak mampu baca sehari satu topik, memang akan rasa tak mampulah. That is because you are being perfectionist macam saya. Awal2 rasa tak boleh, tapi boleh jee, percayalah push yourself. Cuba bayang kalau harini adalah last day, mesti nak baca banyak2 kan🤣
Notes:
MCQ =Multiple choice questions
OBA= One based answers
PMP= Problem based lupa dah
DPQ= Data picture questions
Clinical part
- Make list important clinical cases yang keluar final pro according to postings. How to know? Analyse your compilation. Case apa yang ada, patient mana yang dijemput selalu setiap tahun final pro. Also, patient yang pernah dijemput untuk exam EOP before. Because all this patient yang chronic case dan stable, likely dijemput again. Analyse the history yang mana ada dalam compilation tu, analyse the questions of the examiner and find the answers.
Semua ni bonus. I would say, sayang la kalau you tak prepare. Patient semua ni known case selalu dijemput. The questions from examiner is there, the history is there walaupun tak lengkap. Please okay analyse kes apa selalu dijemput.
- Practise PE of the important clinical cases and all PE. Even patient dijemput yang dishare dalam compilation, try to imagine the finding and the script
- Of all the cases, you need to practise how to clerk, how to examine, ix, mx and the probable questions. Questions from where? Again compilation
That's all kot the tips academically. Of course, spiritually semua you know already kan. Solat hajat, doa banyak2, minta parents doakan and all that.
For clinical part, our format is 2 modified cases. One medical based, one surgical based.
Medical based: IM, paeds, psychiatry
Surgical based: Ong, Surgery, Ortho
So during the day of exam, how did I know this case medical ke surgical? See who is the examiner.
Of course ada internal examiner and external, you mestilah kenal kan internal examiner, your own lecturer. Guess lah, you mesti tahu ni medical or surgical.
One modified long case, got 2 or more examiners.
In my case, I started with surgical based and it's ortho. How I know? Both are internal examiner, one is surgery and one is ortho. And I heard they conversed to each other, " Start ortho dulu". there you go, mine is ortho.
Medical base, I got psy lecturer and IM lecturer. Also, I heard the psy lecturer mention to person in charge, to find psy patient. There you go, psy.
I think that the tips that I can give. Overall, after all the exam done, you should already know how your perfomance is supossedly. 5 years you exam kan, you tahu baseline performance you macam mana. Like Ohh I pernah buat lagi teruk, yet I pass. Ohh this is how I performed previously, I fail.
Lastly, that's all from me. Semoga berjaya my adik adik junior of IIUM medical student and other universities as well. Believe in yourself, you can do it. Even if you think you cannot, pray to Allah, with Allah's will nothing is impossible. Good luck my future collegues.
